Yes, it's actually true, a glass of red wine or that icy, cold refreshing beer may be causing many asthma and allergies sufferers problems according to an Australian study of asthmatics and drinking habits. Nearly half of the participants in the study experienced sneezing, coughing and itchiness and more than a third reported that they had an asthma attack after drinking. Don't panic, though we have a few solutions for you to still enjoy your frosty cold one and get some asthma relief at the same time.
Asian asthmatics who participated in the study seemed to be most sensitive to alcohol. For all participants however, wine was found to cause the most allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Hard liquor triggered the lowest number of reactions at five percent and beer was responsible for ten percent of allergic and asthmatic responses. However, relief from asthma symptoms is possible with the following facts and alternative suggestions.
Wine contains two or more known ingredients that can cause allergic and asthma reactions. One of them is yeast, which is created during the fermentation process of wine making. Since many who have allergies and asthma also have a sensitivity to yeast or a candida yeast infection, drinking wine can trigger an attack.
Residue from pesticides and other chemicals used in the grape growing process along with preservatives can also be a major trigger for many. Those who are not sensitive to yeast will be happy to know that can still enjoy organic wines.
Beer also contains yeast and preservatives, which can trigger an allergic response and or an asthma attack. Once again, if yeast is not a problem then finding a micro brewery that uses few or no preservatives is a good alternative for those who can't bear to part with their cold one. If you do have a yeast sensitivity then hard liquor would be a better choice for you.
If you are one of the unlucky ones who are bothered by alcohol then it's best to cut back your consumption as much as possible or or even abstain. For those who never experience any reaction to wine, beer or alcohol it's probably not an issue for you. One thing to keep in mind however, is that when you drink it creates a drop in your body's magnesium, which in turn can trigger asthma and other diseases. Drinking in moderation is always a wise choice. If you have allergies and asthma you may want to try a natural asthma treatment to safely eliminate your asthma and allergy symptoms.
